DHH Book List

Here you will find a list of DHH (Deaf/Hard of Hearing) books  You will notice the list are split between ASL, Hearing Aids, Cochlear Implants, Bone Anchored Hearing Aids, and Deaf with other abilities. Please bear with me as I continue to update and add to these pages. Feel to reach out to me if you find a good book not on my list as I am always looking to update and include more! Books with Characters who use ASL

This is a list of books with characters who use ASL. Keep in mind some of these books are hearing characters with Deaf family members or friends, while others are Deaf characters themselves. Some of these books may also include Cochlear Implants or Hearing Aids.

Books with characters who use BAHA (Bone Anchored Hearing Aids)

This is a list of books with characters who use BAHA devices. These can be Bilateral or Unilateral. They may also include mention of Atresia and Microtia as will as other diagnosis of Treacher Collins, Etc.

This is a list of books that I do not recommend due to the terms used, or because they are looking down on DHH people or ASL.

Books with characters who use Hearing Aids

This is a list of books with characters who use hearing aids. There are many variations such as a unilateral hearing aid, and bilateral hearing aids in the books. Some of these books may also include some ASL that the characters use or friends of the main character who use other technology such as Cochlear Implants.

This is a list of books with characters who are Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing but also have other diagnoses such as DeafBlind, CHARGE syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, or Treacher Collins. Can include ASL or devices, as well as other communication methods.

This is a list of some of the fun toys and games that use ASL or have devices.

Books with characters who use Cochlear Implants

This is a list of books with characters who use Cochlear Implants. These books include characters starting with hearing aids and then getting a cochlear implant, and also just characters who have implants and use them in their everyday life. In addition to Cochlear Implants some of these books may also include ASL.

This is a list of books with characters who have DHH connections but do not include ASL or any devices. This can include stories about famous Deaf people to stories about a little girl with only one ear. Includes a variety of communication methods.

Family

CODA Books

This is a list of books that include Deaf parents/grandparents and the hearing younger generation. Most involve ASL in some way. CODA means Child of a Deaf Adult.

Chapter Books

Chapter books covering ALL ages that include a Deaf character or ASL in some form. There are low lever chapter books increasing to Young Adult books. Graphic Novels are also listed here.
